Jimmy Thomas Gaston was born on March 25, 1986, in Albemarle, North Carolina. He was the son of Kimberly Copeland Thomas and the late William T. Gaston; and was lovingly guided by his devoted stepfather, Bobby Ratliff. Jimmy graduated from Summerville High School in 2004 and carried with him a strong sense of family, faith, and determination throughout his life.
At a young age, Jimmy accepted the Lord as his Savior, was baptized, and became a born-again believer. His faith remained important to him, and he looked forward to the inspirational messages and songs his mother faithfully shared with him each week.
Jimmy was a man full of life, laughter, and love. He found joy in cooking for others, creating moments that brought family and friends together around the table. He loved playing cards, gaming with his sons, and passionately supporting his favorite teams: the Carolina Panthers and Los Angels Lakers. His vibrant personality, infectious smile, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and believed in living each day with gratitude and optimism.
He was preceded in death by his father, William T. Gaston; his brothers: Kip Meadows and Keith Gaston; his paternal grandmother, Daisy Lee Gaston Edwards; and his maternal grandfather, Sonny Copeland.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 15 years, Ebony Gaston; his sons: Keshaun McLeod, Cordell Gaston, and Jimmy Gaston Jr.; and his beloved granddaughter, Ameriyah Lewis. He is also survived by his mother, Kimberly Copeland Thomas; his stepfather, Bobby Ratliff; his sisters: Kiara Culbertson (Joe), Lecresia Barger (Jon), Renee Nash (Douglas), Teresa Crawford, Michelle Peterson, and Debbin Morrow (Emmanuel); his brothers: Jarvis Copeland (Rochelle), Thomas Hinson, William Gaston, and Travis Ridenhour; his grandmother, Dora Brooks Copeland; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Though Jimmy’s time here was far too short, his legacy of love, laughter, faith, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we celebrate his life, may we honor his memory by embracing family, uplifting one another, and living each day with the same warmth and joy that he so freely shared.
